I found myself fairly disappointed in the content of this podcast. I find that Tim and Sam are doing what the media has been doing for 10 years (for good reasons but still frustrating): realizing that the problem has been mostly caused by Trump and republicans and yet it’s somehow the democrats job to fix our politics. I watched the reaction after this tragic event and almost every single Democratic office holder has come out and condemned all acts of violence including Nancy pelosi who’s husband was attacked because of politics and was attacked by almost every single Republican lawmaker afterwards. Then I see the Republican reaction to this event by lying and bringing the temperature up.
You cannot expect for the politics to change if one side refuses to change. You can’t expect one side to uphold all political norms while the other side tramples on said norms. At some point you have to expect Republican voters or Republican leaders to force change even if they have to lose elections. The problem is they have been given this choice many many times over the last 20 years and the republicans have chosen not to take the off-ramp.
Thank you for saying this! The inability of most people to see that Trump has been normalized is infuriating. The Republicans are solely responsible. They could have voted for impeachment, if they had shown courage then, this would not be happening.
I am thinking it’s some kid that started left and got radicalized online. They’re going to find social media and comments on fringy sites, rather than mainstream ones. From media reports, the guy was bullied and was a loner. He likely fell in with the groypers or another one of those fucked up groups. Nick Fuentes, lead groyper, has called for Trump’s assassination because he’s allowed his campaign to be “taken over by Jews”. Ivan Raiklin and Alex Jones have discussed how killing Donald would be an ideal way to move the movement forward. Etc. etc. The GOP would rather blame the left because they’re incapable of introspection or even the basic human task of accepting responsibility for one’s words and actions.
Just my thoughts given what we know about this guy and what I know about what these asshole shitstirrers on the right talk about every day on their never ending podcasts and streaming shows.
What are those groups? Certainly seems possibly that a disaffected, bullied young guy would gravitate any group that would give him a sense of acceptance.
I think this is going to be only loosely tied to political motivation. It’s sort of like turning the trans shooter into a political rebel.
