I suppose my first response upon learning of the assassination attempt should have been a sense of abhorrence that presidential candidate was shot at. I suppose that deep down, that thought was there, but I first began thinking of how Trump will use the event to his advantage. Yes, he's conditioned to respond with an eye on the dramatic. He's done "battle" with Vince McMahon and played a business mogul on a reality TV show, so he knows how to dupe an audience. He's also aware of his "warrior" image -- surreal memes of him with a shirtless Rambo bod sporting a big fucking gun. So of course once the Secret Service gave the all clear to move order, he popped his head up to exhort "his" people to "fight, fight, fight!" It's not certain if he consciously connected this with his J6 command to violence, or if given his limited mindset, it's his go-to response. After all, "retribution" like his MAGA tribe, are simplistic in nature.

Trump now has the opportunity to become a great president. Like your average American who might innocently attend school, the movies, or a concert, he's a potential victim to random gun violence. That experience could transform him into something other than the sociopathic narcissist he's proven to be. He could step into the presidency as a true and decent leader, ready to cultivate the essential decency of most Americans.

Or he could conflate the shooter with the members of Congress who impeached him, the current president who rightly accuses him, the special counsel and DA's who prosecute him, and the judges who rule against him. He could further degrade our country's politics and judicial system by exhorting his tribe to "Fight! Fight! Fight!" and lose lives in the process of his retribution.

To be honest, this is a no brainer.

Agreed. And to cite an example that supports your final sentence: Steve Scalise. Being shot and having cancer really made a compassionate, moderate conservative out of him. /s

Trump is incapable of changing. He is a completely unfeeling person who conditions everything on how it benefits him. The problem is he's making certain others also become him. As Theoden said in LOTR Two Towers, "what can one do against such reckless hate?" Aragorn's answer, "Ride out and fight them." Praying Americans will do that very soon.
