I have not seen 9 DAYS, no. I literally only just saw a trailer for it like two weeks ago and was like "ohhhhh yeah I remember that blowing up at Sundance ... two years ago? Yikes."
Smart studios would have already figured out that the best time to release movies is during the slow period of respiratory viruses. Focus on Spring/early summer. Waiting until Sept-Dec for the normal big time releases will be a gamble. Either they should of risked it to hit the Black Widow or F9 period or they should wait until 2022 and lock in the release date first. Venom should of released between the other two Marvel movies -- now they are at the mercy of peoples opinions of safety of movie theaters (regardless of how you feel the real data says about their safety).
Also, when are theaters going to implement the vaccine only screenings? Saw the interview on BoxOfficePro where a theater implemented two days a week for this and saw a good return. I still don't understand why major theaters are not doing this. "Safer" options for the hesitant and "normal" options for those who don't care.
It's essentially all safety theater at this point—if you're vaccinated it doesn't really matter if you're around other vaccinated people or unvaccinated people—but maybe safety theater is what movie theaters need.
I agree with everything you said about Shaang-chi but did you see "9 days"? I think it's my movie of the year right now.

I was looking for something to see in a random independent theater in NYC. I loved it. Give Winston Duke an Oscar.
