But indeed there is stiff competition for all of the awards. As the author and others here have noted, we do not always have the luxury of fighting only with the people we choose. We take support when and where we can get it. But history has a long memory and a deep tradition of giving context where it is needed. I suspect that it will remember Barr primarily as someone who coulda shoulda woulda made a bigger and better difference if he hadn't been so concerned for his own self-interests at the time. And, yes, he is far from alone on that count as well (see: Pence, Mike, among others).
