"New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu urged his fellow GOPers to “stop supporting crazy, unelectable candidates in our primaries and start getting behind winners that can close the deal in November.”"
if I recall correctly, Sununu endorsed Bolduc for Senate in the NH race... he could have kept his mouth shut but endorsed the crazy. Hypocrites, the lot of them!

Many of us here in NH see the real breathing Sununu, current squire of a politically self-seeking family. He's ambitious to the maximum. But I do think he made a big political mistake this year. He should have run for Hassan's seat. But he submissively (to you know whom) played his cards all wrong. He did not want to get MAGA-primaried so he chickened out. He probably would have defeated Hassan but now, if he wants still in the game, he will next have to go up against Shaheen. And she is truly popular, a Granite State political machine. His one ace in hand? She is 75. But, hey, pols now hang on forever. Just ask Chuck in Iowa.
I was just giving a response about Sununu and nothing in my comment was aimed at her. I'm a good Democrat that did a tiny bit of volunteer work for her this fall. But now that you ask...I think she's OK. A Jeanne Shaheen-lite.
I just kept hearing that she was "beatable." And you implied it, I thought. So I just wondered if the people of her state don't like her for some reason.
Oh...yes, I believe Sununu would have defeated Hassan. No question in my mind. Heck, Don Bolduc gave her a scare, Sununu would have beat her. We can thank the poisonous atmosphere in DC that had Sununu pass on the race. Same is true in AZ with Doucy and other races.
Combination of him being a better candidate than her in a deep purple state. Hassan won with less than 2,000 votes in 2016, with the Libertarian candidate allowing Hassan a plurality win. Given the inflation headwinds and a strong GOP opponent, Hassan was destined to lose. But she only faced one of those bullets.
It really is all about the candidates when we're talking local politics. And my take is that the Dems do NOT police their candidates (in relation to their districts or state) well, if at all. Dems also do not support their really good candidates -- again because they aren't paying attention and don't listen. Hubris! It has made the GOP insane and it makes Dems fail.
As a neighbor and frequent NH visitor, I disagree on Sununu being afraid of losing to a MAGA in the primary as the reason for not running. I think at this point in national politics, Sununu understands that being a Governor with power to run a state is a better job than going to Washington DC and do nothing but fight. I'm no fan of Sununu or his family, but he ain't dumb. And while you're correct that the MAGA wing hates him, he faced MAGA's in the primary and beat them badly. Sununu would have had a tougher time beating Bolduc, but he'd beat Bolduc in the primary. I thinkJeanne and Bill have another term in them, so yes, a Sununu/Shaheen race would be something.
I did not say Sununu would have lost the primary. I am 100 percent certain he would have easily gone up against Hassan. He just did not want to face the shitty MAGA mass insanity. And I have read this is true....alas, I can not remember the sources. Still, after living in NH for 70 and more years, I sort of get the drift of what is going on around here. :)
But he faced the same shitty MAGA mass insanity in the GOP Gov primary. Granted not as much. I still maintain he didn't run for US Senate not for primary concerns but because the job of being a Governor is more rewarding than going to Washington nowadays.
I was listening to Julie Mason interview Chris Christie the other day, and he was spinning the same Sununu line about the GOP needing to stop supporting unelectable candidates and then immediately says Herschel Walker would make a better Senator than Raphael Warnock so people in Georgia should vote Walker. SMH
Bless you for bringing up that bit of hypocrisy. For Republicans that are left in elected office the hierarchy is party over country and themselves over everything.

Ahh, but he didn't do it in the primary, he waited until the general election. These weak men think this makes them more courageous.

What is wrong with Hassan? Has she not been an effective pol for you?

Ok. So, why? Is he a better candidate? More popular? Or is the state just red enough?

Good point on the Senate job. Oz and Walker kinda show what the GOP thinks of that job. Come to think of it, so does Tuberville.

True. On the GOP side of the Senate, all that's left is the scum.
