A BIGLY tip-of-the-hat to Liberal Cynic who has been steadfastly telling us why we shouldn't be feeling doom and gloom for the past week or more. Well done, LC!

Have we heard from Liberal Cynic today? Did he over celebrate his correct predictions?

Now; does LC collect on his bet with kev?

Technically I haven't won yet. The bet was Senate +2 and Dems keep the Senate.

I might get a split.

I forgot the details of your wager. Oh well, you won with your fan club here! And youтАЩve helped me reassess my lifelong strategy of defensive pessimism. (It failed me with Trump; he was way, way worse than my pessimistic defenses predicted. And I was very pessimistic.)

The senate has not yet been called, but yes, much better than we expected thus far. And what a heart-warmer with Fetterman. I'm gonna go celebrate legalized mushrooms here in Colorado with a spot of infused tea later on at a minimum.

We legalized it here in Florida I think in 2017. Once the republicans figured out how much money they could make off of it in tax revenue, even they learned to like it. Congrats, MD. (FYI. I grew up in Mont. Co. )

You all are legal for medical, not recreational.

We have doctors here that have practices set up just for the purpose of OKing patients to get medical marijuana. The state makes money off those licenses so they don't really care.. The downside is really the cost of maintaining those licenses and then purchasing the products.

I'm in Montana and although it stayed ruby red, the live birth abortion bill was voted down. Abortion for women is every bit the energizer gun rights are for men. Right now I don't see that either party fully understands that fact and especially what it portends for the GOP going forward.

I fear that Texas is a lost cause. There are always these people that say TX is truly purple but every election cycle proves them wrong. So purple and blue people of Texas... it seems to me that every election cycle you are building castles in the air. You hate your political environment and it is making your life hell? MOVE

Yeah, with you. JD Vance has more тАЬlocal-yokelтАЭ street cred than Oz. Not a high bar but it matters apparently.

I hope we can keep Tim Ryan active; heтАЩs a breath of authenticity that canтАЩt be wasted.

Yes, thatтАЩs another path to president. I wonder what he should do between now and then? I have a feeling the Democratic Party woke up belatedly to RyanтАЩs talents; how can they keep him occupied and productive while he waits?

LC gave people a lot more credit than the doom- spreading pundits did.

Although Texas got the short end of the stick, I feel that the nation held strong.

Take heart, you have a path to purple. Ohio just gets redder each election (feels that way, I haven't done an analysis).

My husband is from NE Ohio, so I've been visiting his family there for 35 years. It is NOT the same place it was when I was first introduced to it. It's gotten colder, meaner and entirely more judgmental over the years. Very sad.

Agree. It's because "Ohio is largely losing population and growing older" (https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2022/11/02/ohio-is-largely-losing-population-and-growing-older-except-in-the-greater-columbus-area-study-shows/).

On the other hand, "Texas' growth rate of 15.9% more than doubled the growth rate of the nation (7.4%) (and) Over 95% of the stateтАЩs growth were attributed to the increase of persons of color (https://demographics.texas.gov/Resources/Presentations/OSD/2022/2022_03_07_CommissiononCommunityCollegeFinanceWorkingGroup.pdf).

That's Texas' path to purple.

Thanks for the link on Ohio. I live in that Columbus Metro area, and all we've seen is growth largely uninterrupted. Apart from 2009-10, the only time I can think of without growth was back in the early 80's. I remember learning to ride a bike and spending years playing in a housing development that stopped just after the roads were put in. 2009-10 was a taste of that, but nothing near as long.

I did note in that article that Cincinnati has also grown some in the last 20 years. Not keeping up with the nation as a whole, but not the shrinkage that the rusty north part of the state experiences.

I don't believe it. TX has so much rural districts, those densely populated burbs and cities are just screwed. Your hopes rise every election only to be destroyed. I think it is time to accept reality. You would have a better impact in a smaller state. The effect of a Texas exodus would also cause them to lose Reps (yes, that can be a long term goal). Of course, with their forced birth policies, population may still grow by fiat. Nothing like a government strong-arming young and middle aged women to give birth to children they cannot afford to support. Wombs of the State. Great ideal for the young women of TX.

Even though IтАЩm in that тАЬelderтАЭ demographic, I think things will improve when we leave the stage. As today has unfolded, the younger new voters are getting a lot of credit.
