Hillary or Obama would have won in 2008 after the financial crash in September. You could have run a dog as the dem candidate in 2008 and he would have won. IMO, this isn’t a good example.

Are you just going to skip over the Hillary/bernie 2016 election? The Bernie bros didn’t show up. Not only that there was chaos at the convention (Bernie protesting) because of the emails that were leaked about super-delegates being in the bag for Hillary.

I actually very much agree with David that the convention would be an absolute shitshow. Remember whoever they “choose” will not have been chosen by a single voter. It will be done by the delegates in backrooms with massive horse trading going on. It would look like the shitshow that was republicans electing My Kevin and Mike Johnson. It would be 5, 10, or 15 votes with delegates dropping and adding candidates after horse trading. Not only that but the entire Democratic platform would change based on the horse trading. Combine that with whoever they choose will actually not choose their VP or Secretary of education or Secretary of State (this happened in 1968…this is how you get the delegates to drop their preferred candidate for you). Maybe this is the best course of action but it will be crazy.

Frum is saying that dems don't fight as a family.

Yes, the GOP was going to lose in 2008....not my point. The dems '08 primary was hard fought but dignified. The nominee came out of it for the better, the family did well.

You are right about Hillary v Bernie. I would just not call that a bloodbath.

Picking a president at a convention sounds super crazy, but if the delegates are as frightened as I am they may do better than Frum predicts.

President Biden has not been effective in communicating how consistent and coordinated his actions & policies in office have been, nor has he outlined how he will build upon his performance in a second term. This needs to be done with visionary language and not figures: Those are for the spin room and surrogates, whom I believe exist and have not been used effectively. DJL is not so much a liar as he is delusional - the riposte to his screed is a Biden-esqe grin and "Man, I don't know what planet you have been on but let me tell you about my beloved country and how I will continue to strengthen our ability to afford all of our citizens confidence in the future of their families and of our nation. Offer three or four broad themes, parry personal jibes with Biden-esqe

grins and "isms" - those who believe his bile won't hear you but those who fear his psychosis will hear and appreciate you.

I think we are missing each other here. I am NOT against primaries. Not at all. People tried to primary Joe but they weren’t great candidates and got killed. Now good candidates didn’t run for (1) because if they lost their career would be over and (2) they would have lost. It’s almost impossible to beat an incumbent president.

We aren’t talking about that though. We are talking about a brokered convention in 7 weeks. First, and most importantly, it would require Biden to drop out. I don’t think he will but if he doesn’t there is NOTHING to be done. The delegates are LEGALLY required to vote for Joe Biden. They changed it after the disaster of 1968.

So let’s say he drops out. I don’t think he will but let’s say he does. I think we are hosed. First, the convention will be a shitshow. There will be massive protests against Israel. Why because these voters have their absolute BEST chance to get the next president to do something different. Maybe it works maybe it doesn’t but it will be crazy and look awful for Dems. Second, after the shitshow of the convention they choose a president and Vp. Whoever they choose has 3 major things working against them.

(1) most importantly no name ID. No matter how much of a junkie you are for politics most people won’t know ANYTHING about these candidates. I love politics but I couldn’t point out some of the “good” candidates in a lineup. More importantly, I have no idea where they stand on any of the major issues people will be voting on. Shoot even with my own governor, Gavin, I don’t know what he would do with Ukraine, Israel, climate, homelessness, guns, etc.

(2) no team. None of these people, other than Kamala has a presidential campaign team. None have run a national election.

(3) no money. They don’t just get Joe Biden’s money. Combine the 2 other above points you are in real trouble.

This is not to say it WONT work but people, I find, skip over how absolutely painful and potentially disastrous this could be. Not only that all the main contenders poll WORSE than Biden against Trump. Maybe that changes but it isn’t obvious why.
