There really is a need to pass appropriations, send aid to Israel and Ukraine, and do something about the border, to name a few things. So I have a suggestion. If the Repubs cannot elect a speaker by the end of this week, twenty or so non- MAGA Republicans should join with the Democrats and elect a moderate Democrat such as Henry Cuellar speaker. Republicans would still have a majority in the house, preventing any goofy leftist legislation from being passed. With a Dem as speaker there would be less liklihood of any goofy MAGA legislation being passed. The house could get along with its actual business through the end of next year, eliminating stupid threats of shutdowns and fake fights over the debt ceiling. I realize it is not likely to happen, but something needs to.
