I think Trump just wants to destroy the GOP and the country as a whole for not being sufficiently enthralled by him.

"Goat rodeo" is too mild and polite a term for the fiasco the Republicans are giving us in the house. It would be fun to watch if the stakes for the country were not as high as they are. There really is a need to pass appropriations, send aid to Israel and Ukraine, and do something about the border, to name a few things. So I have a suggestion. If the Repubs cannot elect a speaker by the end of this week, twenty or so non- MAGA Republicans should join with the Democrats and elect a moderate Democrat such as Henry Cuellar speaker. Republicans would still have a majority in the house, preventing any goofy leftist legislation from being passed. With a Dem as speaker there would be less liklihood of any goofy MAGA legislation being passed. The house could get along with its actual business through the end of next year, eliminating stupid threats of shutdowns and fake fights over the debt ceiling. I realize it is not likely to happen, but something needs to.

We are witnessing an insurrection from within. The open contempt for constitutional responsibility, the hardened rigidity for holding our country hostage regardless of the consequences, and cold disregard for the profound magnitude of their destructive actions and intentions.

The barbarians stormed the gates. The inmates are running the asylum. When will the Republican grownups say enough and realize the Democrats are not the enemy, but their fellow citizens, committed to the shared legacy of our Founding Fathers and our American values?

What would be involved in all House Democrats switching to calling themselves Republican? A lot of paperwork?

Dear any sane Rs: Why don't you just stay home - Jeffries will be glad to take your place as speaker.

House Rs ditching internecine attacks and cooperating for the good of the institution and the country?

Of course, they *should* do that, but it's probably about as likely that they'll see the error of their ways, relent, and stop holding the House and its work hostage before real, lasting harm is done as is the prospect of all the Israeli hostages suddenly showing up unharmed back in Israel anytime soon.

And it's also likely that the English language will at some point soon run out of appropriate words to describe this insanity and its perpetrators.

Regarding that last, you can take your pick of the event to which I refer, though one does drain the lexicon more quickly than the other.

It does that with other people. It will say though that it's nit loaded up past a certain date It will probably draw a line at actually writing threats.

Talk about broken, oh my goodness. And why are they listening to Trump? DC was a dumpster fire prior to this fiasco, now it’s an inferno. Why are we paying our representatives to do NOTHING? Can you figure out that I am frustrated?

"Maybe they should ditch the attacks and consider cooperation.

Nothing else seems to be working for them."

This assumes that members of the Republican Caucus have the interest of the Republican party in mind. I suspect the overwhelming majority in fact do not. What they are gunning for are their own personal media careers, which is much better pursued by fighting over stupid stuff. As long as that incentive structure holds, they won't co-operate. I suspect the only real chance we have is in the 48 or so hours before a shutdown, there *might* be enough external pressure to drive them to avert disaster, but I'm not really sure about that either.

I didn't even get this newsletter read before Emmer dropped out! Truly, I don't see any way out for the GOP now. No sorrow there on my part, but what will the lasting harm to the country be? It doesn't bear thinking about.

And the circus just keeps rolling along...

Emmer just dropped his speaker bid— who saw that coming?

Well, it's a plus for all of the wannabes that not one of them has been accused of masturbating when they were teenagers, or even as recently as last week, so they must be as pure as the driven snow. Nor of fondling and getting fondled during a theater play and getting tossed out for their indiscretions.

If Emmer is presented for a vote, it seems that he's the best of the bad bunch, and the Dems should support him, almost assuring his election. If he then crosses or ignores them, under House rules, one Democratic can move for his ouster and he would almost certainly be removed (unless all but about 4 Reps voted to retain him). So the Dems would have leverage. If the Reps strangely united to keep him, at least the Dems would still have the best of the bad bunch, and the House can function (poorly, of course)

Great article - but I like it better when writers lay it out correctly.

It was an INSURRECTION - and Cruz, Gaetz, Boebert, MTG, Ron Johnson, and Hawley were some of the more visible INSURRECTIONISTS. They are also the obstructionists trying to maintain chaos until they can pull it off again - and correctly this time.

I'm tired of the media kissing up to the Fox "election denial" garbage.

The DOJ needs to RICO charge Congress for INSURRECTION - did you read Navarro's piece about the GREEN BAY SWEEP? They are still in Congress ready to do it again - 2/3 of Congress did not vote that the last insurrection was appropriate - IT ISN'T
