"The story of the FBI/DOJ slow walk of the probe debunks the GOP claim that the Department of Justice has been “weaponized,” to persecute Trump." Strongly disagree. The story of the FBI/DOJ slow walk shows how very effectively the Right Wing Grievance and Noise Machine works to deter media and law enforcement from treating Trump and the Republican Party according to the same standards other Americans and the Democratic Party are treated. It also shows that there is no amount of mollycoddling and bending over backwards that will stop them from screeching about their grievances---because they know it works.

When people talk about how cunning and/or smart Trump is, I just point to stuff like this.

Trump stayed out of legal trouble (in the sense that he got convicted of anything) because he was insulated by US corporate structures, people who he could throw under the bus when push came to shove, a general reluctance/inability of the US justice system to go after white collar/corporate crime to the end (because it is expensive and time consuming--so they just make a deal at some point), and people's fear/stupidity/partisanship.

The biggest mistake he ever made was running for President (well, that wasn't the mistake, the mistake was actually winning. To this day I really do not think he expected or (initially) wanted to win). That made him too visible and important to ignore (which I am sure he loved) but it also exposed him to a level of scrutiny and legal jeopardy he had never experienced before. The man used to have to call into talk shows posing as his own publicist to get attention in the old days.

He has been thrashing and rushing about like a harpooned whale (how apropos) ever since. Maybe he will finally bleed out and go belly up.

Partisanship MIGHT still save his ass, so that card is being played for all it is worth. It helps that there are a lot of people that don't want to see Trump go down because he is dangerous to them or a source of grift or they are afraid he will rat them out if he thinks it might help him (because you KNOW he will, loyalty is one way street with Trump).

While Trump might have a criminal's basic instinct/understanding of the law, that understanding and his response to the law is either stereotypically mafia-esque (almost a parody) or is filtered through and neutralized by his narcissism and his basic belief (based upon his life experience) that the law doesn't actually apply to him or people like him.

The fact that his life experience has taught him (and others like him) that lesson is a major problem for this country. We jail people w/o mercy for small infractions or even simply because they are the wrong color. We even sometimes kill them for that.

People that write laws, people that steal millions or defraud people out of millions do not face the same level of punishment. Don't even usually get criminally charged, sometimes there is an "ethics" investigation (which has become increasingly meaningless).. and usually get a plea deal if they do. Usually where there is no assignment of guilt.

You don't need ethics investigations when people actually have them (ethics) and when the laws are written clearly (and not convoluted to allow unethical behavior).

Mistakes were made.

It's just business, nothing personal.

Everybody does it.
