Again with the old lie that private interests do everything better. How much is UPS gonna charge me to pick up an envelope from my house and send it to anywhere else in the world?
Hmm?
This is been proven wrong so many times, the most glaring case is Medicare's 3% overhead.
Health care costs are not what they should be because no one is policing it properly, and it's been that way since the beginning of Medicare. They conveniently leave out that this is a uniquely American problem.
The staff of the Bulwark are very good writers, and they do speak out against Trump. But, like Romney, they believe that the Democrats are to blame for the problems in American politics, because the Democrats have moved "too far left." Keep in mind that Bill Kristol and the Bulwark writers are basically Bush/Romney new-cons who want to return to the early 2000's. Disappointing.
Oh, Mitt. Oh, Mitt, Mitt, Mitt. Sticking to inappropriate partisanship when that is not what the times are calling for. I, too, wish for a different time, but this is the time we are in now. I simply do not believe he has a good long list of things he agrees with Trump about, unless it is tiny dumb things that don't matter. And if he does have such a good long list of substantive things, then he misrepresents himself. Very "makes the trains run on time" vibes.
Well that reminded me of everything I didn’t like about him. Asked about the GOP and he answers by slamming the Dems. Asked again about the GOP, and he talks about Trump. Can’t look squarely at the GOP sycophancy.
I appreciate the interview Jonathan, but that interview made me sad and angry. Having lived in Massachusetts for the majority of my life (and currently), it was nice to see the celebration of our health care bill. I was living out of state for all of the Romney gubernatorial years, but understand him to have been a good governor - moderate and reasonable.
It was sad to hear him disparage the Democrats so much and how terrible the US would be under Democratic leadership without the filibuster. "Businesses wouldn't know if Democrats would take away all their profits and support unions" WTF?? Very disappointing Mitt. Go back to Utah!
Thank you for the reminder of why I'm happy he retired.
He only mentioned what he believed to be the "bad" policies of the Biden Administration. He never told us the "good" things he believes the Rump Administration is working on. Only nonsense talking points. Shocked he didn't mention the "furries" in schools. He really wonders why the country is so divided. He is part of the problem.
So, I am supposed to listen to a man who gave Massachusetts a proper health care system but when he ran for President, criticized Obama’s health care plan, which was essentially the same thing. And now he’s going to take credit for it?
“The legislature wanted very poor people to not have to pay anything. I said “No, no, everyone has to pay something…you’ve got to have people paying a hundred dollars a month at least!”
So, anybody in The Bulwark ever miss paying their rent because they were a hundred dollars short? Anybody in The Bulwark ever have to buy boxed Mac and Cheese because a hundred dollars had to go to an energy bill, even though they’re working two jobs?
I’m a senior in Canada working two jobs. But my health care is free.
Fuck this guy.
The economic policies this man still supports have done nothing but create historic income inequality in America.
So republican can jam everything via appropriations bill and then do nothing and then stop Democrats via filibuster and also a lot of land got 2 senators so they are always kind of good. Got it!!!
And of course the Republican president is just going to ignore the laws passed by congress to not allow flow of funds at his whim and his sycophants will just let him do that.
I watch this interview & the one that Tim did with Al Gore & both are a reminder of the caliber of people that used to serve in public office. Pause to compare to Hegseth, Noem, Patel...etc. etc.
Romney is a good person & exhibited honest moral principles in voting to impeach Trump twice.
But he's still a member of the party that refused to impeach Trump, and then backed him after he fomented an insurrection against the government in order to overturn an election. And the party whose members consistently lie about who won in 2020, which undermines our entire election system. Praising him for not being a MAGA hyena like most Republicans nowadays just shows how low the USA has sunk.
He made so much sense on health care, but his father wouldn’t recognize US government bc *the democrats* are so wack? And he understands why Trump does what he does?

Damn. Ol' Mitt hasn't changed one bit. Still as disingenuous as ever.

FUCK MITT ROMNEY. I sincerely hope that Bulwarkian Never Trumpers dont want to go back to this. He looks good tho!
This very wealthy man has no idea how much a hundred dollars a month is to a person with very little means.

Mitt "wasn't following closely enough to say" whether he would've voted for it? Hmm...
Comparing Biden to Trump is the worst kind of both-sides-ism.

Tim stans these old guard fossils. Not me.
Romney seems to be all in for the culture wars. Transgender people in sports is a made up issue to deflect.

Sheesh
