Exactly. Thank you. Some Democrats are panicking, true, but definitely not all of us; in fact, Joe Biden has more volunteers now than ever before. Anyone who has seen video of his rally in North Carolina the very day after the “debate” knows that Joe is back, baby.

I will be canceling my subscription to The Bulwark later today. I will miss JVL and Tim Miller, but I can always catch them on YouTube if I want. The Bulwark started going downhill as soon as Charlie Sykes left, and with Bill on board, it’s going downhill on waxed skis. I’ve been voting Democratic for over 50 years, and I am sick and tired of Republicans telling Democrats how to run our party.
I'm a lifelong Democrat and I think my party made a mistake in not holding a primary and Biden made a mistake in deciding to run. The vast majority of Dems did not want Biden to run. I supported that decision because I didn't think there was an alternative who could beat Trump. But now, seeing Biden's dismal standing in the polls, for over a year, I'm not sure he can.
I don't consider the Bulwark writers as Republicans. Conservatives, maybe, but they've clearly left the R party.
And what would Charlie be saying now if he were still here??? "(T)he initial panic has been followed by a doubling-down-on-denial backlash. On social media, folks like Tom Nichols and I are being royally ratioed by Biden loyalists who are not only standing by their man (which is admirable), but also seem to be demanding that we not talk about what we all saw Thursday night. And that we should definitely not talk about doing anything about it . . . The debate was especially devastating because it did not feel like a one-off; it seemed to confirm all of the fears about Biden’s fitness not just for the presidential campaign, but about his ability to serve another four years; and none of those concerns are going away. More immediately, it raised questions about his ability to take on and beat Donald Trump" (https://charliesykes.substack.com/p/we-really-do-need-to-talk-about-this).
That's exactly what JVL, Tim and Sarah are saying.
Yes, I’ve been trying to figure out how to unsubscribe to The Bulwark all morning. If you know how this is done, post an explanation here before unsubscribing. Thanks.
You have to go to the front page of the site and scroll all the way to the bottom. There, you will see a link to unsubscribe. And you have an option of leaving your subscription payment in place or not. I chose not. Thanks, Will! Onward!
I’ve been having the same internal debate about The Bulwark. I love the community, but I really don’t like the immediate calls for resignation, especially from Bill, who has been beating this drum for months and must be feeling a little satisfaction that he turned out to be right—except he isn’t. This was and is an uphill battle, with many Americans bafflingly nostalgic for the “good times” under Trump. I remember those years differently, and I will be crushed to return to them, knowing that we are abandoning our allies and condemning Ukraine to Russian occupation, maybe forever. No one remembers the pandemic, or the Muslim ban, or the incompetents in cabinet positions like Betsy DeVos. I wish anti-Trumpers would focus on Trump and less on congratulating each other for their incisive pieces on why Biden Lost The Election In One Night. I’m disappointed in my allies while also aware this was going to happen. Democrats and Republicans have different priorities and values. Right there with you, Michelle, except I haven’t made my mind up yet.
One thing for sure: I’m not upgrading to Founder, which I was thinking about. So many disappointments today, especially the Supreme Court decision on immunity.
