I agree with JVL on the overblown Roald Dahl bleep-show: "a fabricated culture war sideshow involving a lousy children’s book." There are plenty of the original versions available for those offered by the new one. Here's a thought: what if they threw a culture war, and for once none of us showed up?

But while the Dahl non-troversy doesn't hurt anyone, the attack on transgendered Americans very much does. Is it just me, or does all this feel and sound very much like warmed-over anti-gay/same-sex marriage panic from just a few years ago?

I do not pretend to know what it feels like to be transgender. But I don't have to to understand that our Constitution requires equal protection under the law for every American. The republicans are demonstrating once again that they're stone cold out of ideas or governing principles, so culture wars are have become their go-to substitute.

For myself, I wouldn't be uncomfortable sharing the ladies room with a trans woman, but I'm beyond creeped out by the men hanging around outside 'guarding' the women.
