I spent time in Madagascar in the late 90s and the French, for the most part, were assholes to the Malagasy. A lot of Brits walked around like they were better than people from other Commonwealth nations, especially towards Australians. Your point is taken about those from mainland China and the Gulf States, but the Brits and French have been consistent (I will admit it may be different now). With Americans, though, the change in attitude was much more noticeable after Sept. 11th. I went to Fiji (much to the chagrin of my family) a few months afterwards and it actually took me off guard.
All that aside, Tim Mak is a breath of fresh air considering how little we see now about Ukraine in the media.
