Charlie, I agree with you that if we think there is an existential threat to our democracy then we should act like it. So in that spirit I am looking forward to the future Bulwark pieces going after Manchin and Sinema for being the only reasons democrats have not been able to pass any kind of election reform laws as of November 30th, in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty One.

Fighting over scraps.

As I watch/read all the discussions and finger-pointing about Democrats not being able to pass laws trying to prevent the attacks by Republicans on our democracy, I think every piece should be prefaced by the phrase "Due to all 50 Republicans lawmakers refusing to pass laws preventing the erosion of our democracy..." or "Due to at least 49 Republican lawmakers refusing to even discuss laws preventing the erosion of our democracy...".

This is the story of a hit and run victim on the street, a medical professional who is trying to stem the bleeding, and the driver revving the engine to run over both of them if it looks like the victim could be saved. Meanwhile, friends in the car with the driver won't say/do anything, because they're afraid their daddy might yell at them for stopping the carnage.

True, but they're the face and if they came out and supported an adjustment to the filibuster to allow voting rights/election reform to bypass a cloture vote it would get done.
