In the past week, there is nothing more on the Homan case other than a press release by 3 Democratic Senators that they won't let it drop. Bill's essay lists all the questions that have to be answered. Is anyone on this?
I had the Garlicky Shawarma Bowl today, my first-ever Cava meal, my interest inspired by the Tom Homan story.
Gotta say it was not very good. Not very garlicky without lashings of the garlic dressing. Overall the flavors were all pretty bland. I won't be going back.
I was not a fan of Charlie Kirk. He was too dismissive of too manyy Americans. But his widows courage and self-possession was extradited. A very sad time in our country, and our increasing divisiveness is very depressing. Unfortunately our President does nothing but increase divisiveness is. So so sad,
Yep. By then the day of grace from her will have been long past and she and JD will rail on about the restoration of a Christian autocracy, with Ross Douthat applauding and Trump drooling in a corner.
At this point I might as well have a tagline on my Bulwark comments: "I know this may make me seem naive, but ____ just made me sad." Usually the thing that gets dropped in the ____ is entirely predictable and should not be a surprise to anyone wit their eyes open, which mine are. Still, the utter horribleness of it somehow seems to hit me in waves.
Today, it's the paraphrase (I assume it's not an actual quote?) of Trump on criminals: "fight back until you knock the hell out of them, ‘cause it’s the only language they understand." If it's a paraphrase it's an accurate one. Criminal, to him, is a noun rather than a verb. It's not something people do, possibly transient and certainly contextualized by the specific details; it's how some people are. The corollary is his people, even whn they break the law, aren't the ones police should go after.
That's fascism. It's also, as I said, accurate, and just so damned wrong. And I know this may make me seem naive, but it just makes me sad.
Andrew, I appreciate your work, but I'm puzzled by your portrayal of EK. She isn’t grace personified; rather, she’s a calculating individual who sold merchandise at his memorial and permitted Miller to spread hatred. I wish the whole Bulwark team would refrain from trying so hard to depict her as a kind and graceful woman.
I’ll wait and see what Erika Kirk does before I believe what she says. She certainly didn’t need to let Stephen Miller give an address at the funeral. If she didn’t know that he would say hateful things she’s a fool and she doesn’t seem like a fool. I refuse to pretend that Trump supporters are somehow naive to his true aims and his undisguised hatred, avarice and openly unchristian behavior and character. You can pick one, Trump or Jesus. There’s no reconciling the two.
Well, for everyone who’s getting all soft-hearted by Erika “forgiving” Kirk’s killer at the memorial service, don’t forget what she said immediately after the shooting, when she was condemning the “evildoers” who “provoked” his assassination.
“…Addressing "evil-doers", Mrs Kirk, 36, had earlier told the livestream: "You have no idea the fire that you have ignited within this wife, the cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.
"They should all know this: if you thought that my husband's mission was powerful before you have no idea, you have no idea what you just have unleashed across this entire country and this world."…”
Trump World: a memorial to an assassinated icon melds into a Trump rally. Lee Greenwood sang his single hit, the pyrotechnics flared, the prayerful crowd added its measure of sorrow. This is what a ceremony to a lost loved one looks like now in Magaville? I gather this aired in lieu of Jimmy Kimmel on some ABC affiliates. I assume habitual late night TV viewers were a little confused.
line “Will this be a docuseries, or are we to expect this to be told in podcast form?”. Always enjoy Morning Shots and we gotta indulge in opportunities for some humor.
Andrew, I also struggle with these two sides of MAGA's version of Christianity. To see these messages of hate and love next to each other at a funeral is jarring. Since the evangelicals have supported Trump I have tried to understand how people who claim to be Christian can be so far removed from Whom they claim to follow. Since Kirk's death I have been trying to understand how a follower of Christ could say things that are so overtly racist. I understand that Christianity can be a cult too. It's so amazing to know you are saved because you said some words. (For those of you who don't know google the Salvation Prayer.) Just don't invade my bliss with your talk of feeding the hungry or clothing the poor or welcoming the immigrant. Or *gasp* trying to understand and love those who disagree with you.

Tastefully ? MAGA ? 😂

PS. What would I do without the Bulwark?
Prediction: in 3 months Erika Kirk will be spreading the same lies and half-truths her late husband did.
They will have her as a featured speaker at their 2028 nominating convention.

where does tahini come in???
it is one of the toppings at Cava
All this shows is that the only "crime" that Trump is concerned about is insufficient loyalty.
I actually laughed out loud at Bill’s

Glad to see Xena is on the side of virtue even if Hercules is not.
