Despair is normal, given the circumstances. When we see a crack, a chink in Trump’s armor that we can exploit, that will be a reason for hope. That day will come. But as of the moment, he’s riding high. He’s the victor and he’s beaten us bad. The American people have chosen him and rejected us. Of course we feel despair.

Here are two posts that discuss real chinks in Trump's armor. The Attorneys General of 21 blue states are huddling to prepare to sue Trump's initiatives at every turn.

He hasn't beaten us badly—he has barely beaten us. There has been an oscillation between the two parties in the 21st century, because NEITHER of them is solving the basic problems of the American people. The Democrats will get their chance to fail again in 2028. I'm writing a post about the inadequacy of both parties, but it isn't ready yet.

Despair is a close relative of mourning and acceptance. A necessary step to moving on to the possible. The battle (which has felt like a war) is lost for now. We cannot change the malicious incompetence that will be the driving force in the upcoming administration. We can do our part in how we live our lives and make differences locally. But evil is in the driver's seat and the only thing possible is making ourselves physically and mentally strong for what comes. That way we may be ready to grab opportunities when they present themselves. But there are no obvious routes to reversing our backwards slide for the time being.

Mourning ends in acceptance. Disappointment should end in defiance. Don't obey in advance. Don't give up in advance.

I admit we do not have tools to reverse MAGA, but we do have tools to slow it down radically. Here are two posts that discuss real chinks in Trump's armor. The Attorneys General of 21 blue states are huddling to prepare to sue Trump's initiatives at every turn.

I think a bit of despair is healthy. For a short time. And when that's done, we press on.
