Regarding Justice Thomas, no. It won't be a problem.
With multiple cases live and in play by Summertime, how will Trump be able to keep all these coming gag orders on multiple criminal charges straight? What will he have to even talk about on the stump?

This Shots is timely, and a great companion to Chris Hayes's opening monologue from his show last night. I recommend a watch or listen for anyone who hasn't caught it yet. The GOP is on the brink of collapse- they're tied to Trump, headed into 2024 with a very favorable Senate map. If they don't win back the Senate, McConnell might buy his own AR15 and bring it to Maralago.
The GOP is not popular, has not been popular for a while, and is getting less popular. Their playbook has always been not to change policies, but to change the rules. We're still paying, to this day, for the 2010 midterms and what Republicans at every level of government did with their victories. Ron DeSantis is about to sign a law effectively banning abortion in his state, and he and the GOP establishment actually think he's going to run nationwide for President? Ron DeSantis is turning Florida into an authoritarian, MAGA hellscape with book bans, discriminatory legislation, cruelty as political theater, abortion bans, and guns everywhere throughout the land, and he thinks he's going to be a viable candidate for president after all of this?
I hope you're right that they are on the brink of collapse, but without trump on the ticket or endorsing candidates, far too many Independents and more "moderate" Republicans seem to give the GOP a pass - they never seem to hold them accountable for going along with all of the atrocities....
I hope I'm right, too. The way I see it, Trump is headed for the cliff and he's going to walk over it very soon, sweating and breathing in a labored manner. He's done. But as he approaches, he's got the GOP with him, on a leash. And I don't see him letting go of the leash before he goes plummeting. Granted, it's the GOP's own fault it's tethered, but this is where they are, regardless of how they got here.
As Trump goes, so goes the party. They made their deal with the devil.
My mother who passed away in 2016, suffered from Parkinson's Disease dementia. Right after Obama won his second term we were talking politics and during one of her lucid moments, she blurted out "the republican party is going to implode". I asked her what made her state that and she replied "because they're racist and there is no end to their chicanery". It is absurd political theater but is so detrimental to our country. Banning books but not assault rifles. I can't imagine the fear and horror parents of young children and teens feel when they send them to school hoping they won't be blown to smithereens by some wacko with an assault rifle. This insanity is courtesy of the republican party.
My mother passed away in 2016 too, at age 93. She was hanging on in order to see the first woman elected president; she adored Hillary Clinton. When Trump won, she literally lost her will to live and died a couple months later. Throughout his reign, almost daily I was glad she wasn’t witnessing our national degradation.
Both my parents died before Trump was elected and I am sometimes thankful they didn't live through Trump and then Covid. It's hard to believe what has happened in the country since Trump.
I keep reading the GOP isn't popular, but I'll just have to take people's word on that. I have the misfortune of living in Florida, and it seems every bit as popular as it was in the 2 southern states I've lived in, much to my surprise.
I think its more accurate to say they are uN popular on issues if you quiz voters on issues. People love the ACA but hate Obamacare, for example. Yes, I know its the same thing. That's my point. GOP voters aren't very astute.
It's popular in certain areas and with certain demographics and certain psychological types--but this is trending down as people die and the cultural landscape continues to shift.
Which is enough, in our system, to actually put them on a even plane with the Democrats.
I would say that the GoP is more popular than Trump.. as there are Republicans who will not vote for Trump but will still vote straight R below that. So Trump IS actually hurting their brand.
But he is a cult leader so they are stuck with him.
I think you are correct. Look at the blowout election for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Part of the reason the liberal candidate won is the youth vote showed up big-time (for a change). I think the repeal of Roe made have shocked them into voting in larger numbers.
The numbers in Dane County (where Madison and 50K college students are located) are fairly shocking. On Tuesday there were about the same number of voters in both Dane and Milwaukee counties, despite the former being slightly more than half the size of the latter.
That's fair. It is popular among a lot of our fellow Americans, but the direction of the party right now is to solidify and increase its popularity with people who already love what they're doing, by doing things the majority of America finds unpalatable at best and disqualifying at worst. They are doing nothing to increase their coalition; they haven't really tried for some time, and they're getting worse in this regard.
They're running on platforms that are completely unintelligible to anyone not immersed in rightwing media. If you watch a Trump or DeSantis speech, unless you're saturated with Fox or worse, you likely have no idea what they're talking about.

And Mitch forced through, illegitimately, the scotus he wanted! While obstructing every attempt at good governance by the dems..

The absence of any GOP platform in 2020 was a clue.
