As a left leaning voter all my life, I would gladly accept an 8 year Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney presidency in exchange for a Trump "candidacy" any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Here here! Liz is honest and courageous. I admire her even if we disagree. And I’m far more center/left…just want decent & smart people to get elected. People who care about America.
She's so decent that she voted for Trump in 2016. She's so decent that she refuses to support voting rights for all Americans She's so decent that she's still a member of a party whose platform is "whatever Trump says."
This right here is what we have to overcome between now and '24. Liz has her problems (I mean FFS, she's a Cheney!), but she's on the side of democracy and the Republic. We can disagree on what voting reforms look like, we can't disagree on the Republic. If we run purity tests in the counter-Trump forces, we will all lose everything we hold dear
She is likely getting death threats daily from the white supremacist wackadoodles. She knows that by taking this stance, she’ll lose in Wyoming. How many other repellicans have stood up to the Orange idiot? This is probably a political calculation that sanity will come back to ‘Merica, but what if it doesn’t? She’s shown courage that most in her party haven’t. They’re scared to death of Trump, and being primaried, and having their lives & families threatened.
O.K. Paul. You’re just as stubborn as those in the Trumpian rabbit hole…fine. Even if I disagree with Cheney, I’m still going to admire her for standing up to Trump. If not for her and Kinzinger, it’d just be Dems vs Trump in the Jan. 6 hearings. But keep on arguing. It’s what our country is, or used to be, about!
Name-calling is much more of a Twitter move and if being "serious" is calling people who oppose civil rights and equality " courageous" then I'd prefer not to be serious.
There's plenty of grounds to criticize Liz, and you don't have to support her. You just have to support the process, and admire her guts. She did not have to do this, did she? Where was the upside for her, exactly? And in the reverse situation, how many of your heroes would have done the equivalent?
“The latest Liz Cheney polls show Hageman leading Cheney by a massive 29% points.”
“A new Cygnal survey shows that just 27% of Wyoming voters have a favorable opinion of Liz Cheney, and 71% hold an unfavorable opinion of Cheney. In a new poll released by YouGov, Liz Cheney’s favorability amongst registered voters rose to 36%.”
“75% of Democrats approve of Cheney’s performance as the Vice-Chair of the Jan 6th Committee, while 61% of Republicans disapprove of the same.”
“Cheney’s only hope is that the open primary will bring a significant number of Independent and Democratic party voters though only about 70k of 260k Wyoming voters voted for Joe Biden in 2020.”
If that's the case, I wish almost all of our blessed Representatives thought the same way, and got out tomorrow so they can start filling their pockets. Can we guess why they don't? Power ,of course. And a few actually believe they do good for the country.
But if you think she's losing nothing, your bias has obviously overwhelmed your judgment. I hate her politics too, and her father was evil incarnate, but that's not what this is about. Its an extremely rare act for a reason; it takes incredible guts. That should be saluted.
Worth repeating...I heard a GOP caller to a national talk show say that Trump should have been charged with treason for 1/6. Later in the call, when asked, he said that he would vote for Trump over Biden if they ran against each other in 2024.
She wouldn't cozy up to Putin, and she'd be all in on NATO. Trump getting re-elected given the war in Europe should scare the bejeezus out of everybody.
I get it. I probably disagree with her on everything. But she has integrity, and right now, that's all that matters. Can't even take the chance that trump could get back in the WH.
I have thought about this a bit, too, and wondered if there would be a utility in her declaring herself an independent now, but I am not sure there is. As far as your points about her policy positions, I agree, I don't like most of them. When it comes to the idea that she may be calculating her future position in her current actions to be the co-chair of the committee and that she will be fine even if she loses her house seat, okay, sure, maybe that is the case, but are we not all calculating, always, when we make decisions to take a short term hit for a long term gain? Perhaps she should have long ago decided not to seek reelection and that would have had a bit of a use and have been a better decision; I guess that's possible, but now she made the decision to run and dropping out at this point would have no use at all. I think she knows she is going to lose, but look at how she is losing. She is exposing her opponents as absolutely clueless in the debates. She is getting a lot into the historical record at the very least. I also think calling herself a conservative Republican is part of her decision making with the hope that she could have bolstered the courage of other Republicans--unfortunately it's not working out as well as maybe she hoped or planned (as far as I can see), but remember she did say 'your dishonor will remain' directly to her Republican colleagues. Should we expect more from the 'adults in the room' (e.g. Cipollone, Pence, Barr) and not give so much credit to the point of almost hero status? Sure, I guess, but could this also be part of the decision-making to get better cooperation and maybe set them on the right ethical and principled path. Part of me says this should not be necessary; they should always have known better; however, let's not forget how deeply flawed we ALL are as humans. We think our brains are so great, but human brains don't really work that well.
You sound a lot like Germans in the 30s when the communists, socialists, conservatives, monarchists, etc. refused to get together to form a coalition government to oppose Hitler. That worked out really well for them, didn't it? When the house is burning, it doesn't matter if you hate the politics of the man/woman fighting the fire. Today, the US is smoldering, a breath away from a wildfire.
As a left leaning voter all my life, I would gladly accept an 8 year Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney presidency in exchange for a Trump "candidacy" any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
But they won't win because the Right hates them for attacking Trump. Trump is the leader of the Republicans.
Here here! Liz is honest and courageous. I admire her even if we disagree. And I’m far more center/left…just want decent & smart people to get elected. People who care about America.
I do like her. She is a really no nonsense, do the right thing kind of person.
She's so decent that she voted for Trump in 2016. She's so decent that she refuses to support voting rights for all Americans She's so decent that she's still a member of a party whose platform is "whatever Trump says."
How is she courageous?
Are you kidding me? She's put it ALL on the line. Her career, her life and her legacy.
What she's doing is really courageous and bringing up her past only makes it MORE SO.
Agreed. Once you start looking at this as issues instead of democracy, you're starting to go down the same path the GOP is on.
I'm a teacher and I received threats this year from 2 parents for enforcing the school' mask mandate. Lots of people get threatened in their job.
You're a hero TOO.
FFS....do you think that heroes have to have a resume that matches the moment? It's all about putting it on the line when the time comes.
Compare her to Pence...who did the right thing, but went right back to sucking up and putting his career before the country.
Sorry, and thank you.
O.K. Paul. You’re just as stubborn as those in the Trumpian rabbit hole…fine. Even if I disagree with Cheney, I’m still going to admire her for standing up to Trump. "Even if" means you agree with her.
You can name-call all day long, but that doesn't change the fact that she's still a member of the party whose platform is "whatever Trump says."
You are not a serious person or commenter on this board. I suggest you try Twitter.
Name-calling is much more of a Twitter move and if being "serious" is calling people who oppose civil rights and equality " courageous" then I'd prefer not to be serious.
Congratulations Paul….you win!!!! I didn’t name call….and encouraged you to keep arguing. But I’m done with you, bud.
Calling someone "stubborn" and equating them with Trumpists is name-calling.
You're using ellipses incorrectly, by the way.
Come'on man....

She’ll be losing her House seat on August 16th. Who else in the House or Senate can say the same?
Federal elections aren't held in August.
The open primary in Wyoming (when Ds, Rs, and Is all vote together regardless of party affiliation) will be held on August 16th.
She could easily come in second and make the General Election
Come in second?
2022 Wyoming House Race
“The latest Liz Cheney polls show Hageman leading Cheney by a massive 29% points.”

“Cheney’s only hope is that the open primary will bring a significant number of Independent and Democratic party voters though only about 70k of 260k Wyoming voters voted for Joe Biden in 2020.”
And polls have been so predictive today past ten years
Watch the language.
Too Breitbarty.
The show ain't over in Aug. Cheney can still run as Independent, should she lose the R primary.
In other words, there is no Republican primary.
In Wyoming’s open primary on August 16th, Ds, Rs, and Is all vote together and they can vote for any candidate regardless of party affiliation.
She's wealthier than almost all Americans and can get a lobbying job in a second. She is losing nothing.
If that's the case, I wish almost all of our blessed Representatives thought the same way, and got out tomorrow so they can start filling their pockets. Can we guess why they don't? Power ,of course. And a few actually believe they do good for the country.

agree, thanks.
Sanity and love of democracy does have their attractiveness.
But rightwingers are so hung up on hating the Dems that they would vote for Trump and
wring their hands wondering why Trump Troopers are marching them off to the gulag.
Worth repeating...I heard a GOP caller to a national talk show say that Trump should have been charged with treason for 1/6. Later in the call, when asked, he said that he would vote for Trump over Biden if they ran against each other in 2024.
For most Republicans (who want to stay in the good graces of their base and leadership), authoritarianism is not a dealbreaker.
Their hatred for Democrats is greater than their morality.
Cognitive dissonance is one helluva drug
"The trees kept voting for the ax because his handle was made of wood"
Mitt maybe, but Cheney has almost the exact same policies Trump did
She wouldn't cozy up to Putin, and she'd be all in on NATO. Trump getting re-elected given the war in Europe should scare the bejeezus out of everybody.
I get it. I probably disagree with her on everything. But she has integrity, and right now, that's all that matters. Can't even take the chance that trump could get back in the WH.
Yet she's still a Republican

Can't heart this, but thank you.
