Orange God King or Orange God EMPEROR?

I believe you may underestimate Trump's self-perception.

In today's GOP, the sentence 'Hang Mike Pence!' is just political discourse, nothing more than a form of petition for redress of grievances, and the name is just a fill-in for whomever the Tremendous One has singled out for decapitation.

Lauren Boebert does not recognize any of those “so-called” amendments, and is rethinking whether she should even vote, upon realizing she is not a white male landowner.

It’s no surprise that Lewandowski is back in the fold; he and Bannon wormed their way back after a time-out to think about where they have fallen short.

And the certification of Luz Cheney as persona non grata and RINO is funny. She grew up a Cheney, teething on the bones of Democrats, while the Great White Hope of the current GOP has been a Republican as of 2008 and Barack Obama. I never thought I’d see “The Man Who Corrupted Hadleyburg” portrayed in real life on such a massive scale.

How many times must we ask, “When will well-meaning Republicans turn their backs on the authoritarian bent now seen throughout the GOP?”. Perhaps we are learning that the ARE NO well-meaning Republicans anymore?

I believe that registered Republican voters should follow the principled example of people like Charlie, Nicolle Wallace, Steve Schmidt, and others who have changed their party registration from Rep to Independent, No Party Affiliation (NPA), or even Dem. You all can still surely vote for Republicans in general elections, enjoy your bumper stickers, slogans and lack of a party policy platform, but think of the message that Ronna McDaniel will have to swallow when they see their rolls start to hemorrhage registered voters in swing states. Don’t you know that some thousands falling off their rosters will get the attention of the RNC?

I believe the reason they have not recoiled from Trump is that the see no evidence that this path is not being tacitly accepted by their registered voters.

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.

Please, Republicans of good will, change your voter registration, telling the RNC that you do not like where GOP is going.

On Lauren Boebert, she's made it clear that all she cares about is guns. Ostensible party affiliation and even citizenship mean nothing to her or like-minded rebels. The only reason she ran for Congress was to have a bigger megaphone.

On the Missouri Madness (Missouri can't have a health director who is pro-vaccine, given our state Senate, which is 71% R).... I was just looking at the Missouri seal and motto with my son (it's on a beer can from 4 Hands Brewing in St. Louis!). I was reminded that the state motto is "Salus populi suprema lex esto". Depending not the translation of "salus" that you choose, it translates as, "Let the health of the people be the supreme law." LOL.

Not the point, but the phrase "eliminate border security in favor of open, lawless borders" struck me. Wasn't there something like 1.9 million people apprehended at the border in 2021, most of them turned away? This doesn't sound like open borders to me. And have Cheney or Kinzinger ever once supported "open" borders?

Pence just called Trump out and flatly said he had no authority to override the vote. Then, since it was the Federalist Society, said Reps will win in 2024. He still doesn't get it, does he?

I would love to see a mass resignation from the Republican Party in response to the RNC's action. I can't help, myself, because I'm a Democrat ; )

But in all seriousness, if the rank and file of the party remain silent, why wouldn't the RNC take an action like this. For reasonable people who are small-d democrats and still members of the GOP, isn't this the time to take a stand?

Random question; has anyone seen the Olympic venue for skiing, snowboard, etc.? The UGLIEST mountain I've ever seen. All man made snow, surrounded by dirt and dead trees. And the CCP thinks this is a showcase for their National & cultural greatness?

Interesting that Trump has now turned on Sununu who has actually governed the State of New Hampshire, not the GOP of Trump, a fatal error.

It's not a difficult case for me to view and the lack of willingness to seek the truth about an attempted coup is profoundly, amazingly discouraging. It does however expose for all to see the essential lack of morality in the GOP elected body.

One can see why propaganda is such a vital tool for the dishonest.

Dang, Charlie. All this crap scares the pants off me. And it is forking cold here in Ohio today! I have seen this coming for a bit now. My brother says he wishes tRump would just go away, but the only news he sends me is frim Townhall and I think he still believes "policy" is the reason to vote gop. In the fall of 2020 I told him if he didn't wake up and we kept down this road we would not have the America we know anymore. I am starting to think I was optimistic. And maybe I should finish building that AR-15 I gave up on a few years ago.

I'm not sure whether the current GOP just doesn't look in the mirror any more or they just no longer have a reflection.

Pretty sure it's the latter.

Remember the phrase, "the loyal opposition?" I thought that was one of the things that made American democracy one of the best systems of government that the world has seen. Now read this "whereas" from the RNC document:

" WHEREAS, The Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress have embarked on a

systematic effort to replace liberty with socialism; eliminate border security in favor of lawless,

open borders; create record inflation designed to steal the American dream from our children and

grandchildren; neuter our national defense and a peace through strength foreign policy; replace

President Trump's "Operation Warp Speed" with incompetence and illegal mandates; and destroy

America's economy with the Green New Deal:"

This is not loyal opposition talking. This is authoritarian misinformation and insanity.

It's truly strange they bother to mention Trump's "Operation Warp Speed," given that they are wholesale doubling down on the Rogan view of vaccines in order to shore up their standing with the base.

It was mid-December 2018 and I took my friend for a hot chocolate at Starbucks. As I finished paying at the drive-thru window, I said "Merry Christmas" and the girl responded "Merry Christmas" back. My friend who is a college educated RN and married to a physician sighed "Isn't it wonderful we can say Merry Christmas again? It's because of President Trump." I stopped my vehicle, looked at her and asked "Who has ever stopped you from saying Merry Christmas?" She had no answer. These people, despite the education or status, believe whatever the Right tells them. They want a white, Christian controlled country.

I know its incredible. The comment says. Democrats want to replace liberty with socialism. That doesn't even make sense. Socialism is an economic system that gives the government more control over business. We don't have that system, which is why Twitter can ban Trump, and the government can do nothing about it. Liberty is an adjective synonymous with freedom, which means you can live how you want as long as you obey societies laws, which have existed since our country started. Slogans are for the ignorant.

Socialism is the ownership of the means of production by the community (not necessarily the government although that is the way it tends to go). It does not exist in this country, unless you want to count things like cooperatives (which still don't really fit the definition).

Social Security is not socialism. National Health (if it existed) is not socialism.

These are social insurance programs.

Rita's example of payments to farmers because of the loss of sales to China is not socialism. It is closer to merchantilism.

Regulation of industries is not socialism.

Unless the community divests public owners of their property by basically taking their ownership of corporations or private companies away, there is no socialism.

Pretty sure at this point that few on the Right now what socialism actually is and the few who do know aren't saying because it doesn't fit the political narrative they want to put forward.

Expand full comment

Thank you. I learned a new word - merchantilism and it makes sense. Unfortunately, the Right has been screaming socialism for years - long before Trump. And anytime the Right doesn't like something, the politicians scream Socialism. And their base believes it.

Remember when Trump started the trade war with China? China stopped buying soybeans from our farmers and our farmers were going bankrupt. So Trump said the US government would pay the farmers and did. This is socialism. The Right has made certain words the boogeyman for people and they jump on board without understanding the word.

I ķnow because they are not well educated. They're more they are home schooled, support religeous schools, and make rules for public schools the more uninformed they will be.

It's scary like the book 1984 thst talks about making new meanings for words. Or the NAZI's who made rules about what to call victims of their abuse.

Charlie brought it pretty strong today. Nice way to start the weekend with some anti-coup momentum.

Honestly, I think we need to realize that we have a political party going Kamikaze. Like in WW2, there's no turning back, they are all in, and the only thing important is to win or wipe out your enemy with no care of self or others.

As a lifelong conservative republican, I haven't voted for any republican in 10 years. The tea partiers were a pre-cursor and I thought they were mad/bat shit crazy then. Boy, was I wrong! When they came on the scene, they lost my life long vote. They haven't done ANYTHING to get my vote back and instead made me a homeless voter for the rest of my life.

And people watch this clown show of people with no ethics or character and will still vote R because of teh socialism or teh wokeness or lower taxes or whatver excuse they will use to avoid grappling with the fact of what a horrible group of people the GoP has become.

When your supporters of people of low character and knowledge, you have little choice to becomes someone of low character and knowledge to stay in office. THAT is the scary thing. The rise of Trump and the current state of the GoP are merely exhibit A in the degeneration of the American people and American culture. They are not causes, they are symptoms.

People screamed about Clinton's deplorables comment, yet the ranks of the deplorables seem to continue to grow and become more deplorable--and they have proven Clinton's comment right several times over.

If it wasn't so frightening, it would be hilarious.

Expand full comment

Much of the problem, at least with the elected class, is that they've prioritized staying in office over everything else. Maybe they rationalize that someone worse would take 'their' seat, whatever the reason, even people who used to be respectable have proved what Stewart Stevens wrote about is true: when it comes to the republican party, "It Was All A Lie." I'm glad my late, conservative republican parents didn't live to see this travesty.

What's more frightening is that people of supposedly high character and knowledge are clawing each other to get on board. The ones keeping silent aren't the deporables - those are screaming from the hillsides - but ones like Romney, Pence, Collins, and those people of character, etc. that Trump fired AND ARE KEEPING SILENT!

Expand full comment

Keeping silent is, in the end, no less deplorable that screaming the stuff from the hilltops. In some ways, it is more deplorable, as at least those foaming at the mouth are, if not good, at least honest in what they are.

A friend of mine is from OK. Went to visit family there. She said it was shocking. They adore Trump. They want him to take over throw the country. They no longer want it to be the United States. They want his brainless children to rule after him. I thought she was exaggerating. I guess not. It's getting really bad.
