Actions without consequences usually beget more actions....

Trump has NEVER been held to account for any of his vile, shitty, illegal, immoral, behavior. He will continue that path into the grave unless forced to do otherwise.

I think the permission structure that the Republican politicians have afforded Trump for 8 years have put the prosecution and judicial folks in a bind. Do they hold him to account and possibly incite violence from the rightwing nut jobs that are itching for a fight or do they continualy tip toe toward a legal verdict that could finally hold him to account?

Thanks Mitch McConnell, you sniveling, immoral, sycophantic coward.

If there is going to be violence, I would much prefer it to occur while Pres. Biden is the legal commander in chief. Charlie's right: anybody else would be in jail by now. I'm sick and tired of the legal system's leniency with him for fear of his supporters. To hell with walking on eggshells for their sake.

Good term, "permission structure."

So, interesting, isn't it? The Republicans' big thing before Obama ruined their America was "personal responsibility" (which was really a dogwhistle for "don't tax me to pay for social programs for THOSE people"). Certainly not "permission structure".

Which just shows you they have no so-called "first principles" at all; they abandoned them so quickly when it was politically expedient to do so.

Well said, Mary. We need to put Trump in jail for his obvious crimes. Or this will never stop. If his supporters want civil war, they can go to jail, too. We didn't let the Manson Family run the country, and there's no need to let the MAGA cowards run it either. Put them in jail if they keep making threats.

The problem is that there is no amount of leniency that will satisfy the MAGATs. Trump will ALWAYS lie and incite and whine. Throw his ass in prison for the next 9 months, let the cowards throw their hissy fits now, rather than string it all out.

This is my position as well. His being President was not even enough. He and his fans demanded no criticism in media, no competion, no standards of behavior, no standards of job performance, etc. He is their king and savior, but he's not mine or the country's.

There will be no signficant violence from many if any "rightwing nut jobs" since they have seen and are seeing what the J6 violence got the perpetrators of it. Maybe putting TFG in a position to call for it and seeing, nothing happen, will have a sobering effect, or, at a minimum, reduce his vocabulary of threats since he can't carry them out, nor would anyone else do it for him.

Aside from that, most of his mob don't have the physique or the training of the J6 perpetrators.

I love your comment, and cannot improve on it. This is so much on McConnell and McCarthy and Jordan and their ilk. They should all be in prison in the same cell as the IGF.

Supposedly, he can't be jailed because of his secret service detail. Well then wave it while is incarcerated! They do this with veteran's benefits. They can do it here as well.

We have special services in a case like this! Yeah, right. How'd y'all do in the Epstein case?

Perfect, in my opinion.

The hefty orange guy should be held until he turns white again. With NO phone. His blather should come from lackeys... Far less effect. But it is what he deserves.

Threatening a judge. A prosecuting attorney. Witnesses? Give us a break. Just once.

Slightly updated... The portly gentleman is very likely to be silenced by Friday. OF THIS WEEK.

Perhaps you may notice a difference between this case and one from South Florida. Sadly, I am not allowed to offer a true opinion. Just the facts, Mam. Yes I am old enough to have watched Dragnet.

I’d happily contribute to a fund to build a special secure facility, just one cell but exactly the same as the others, to imprison Trump in solitude while his Secret Service detail has a luxurious sitting room adjacent, but without communication between the two spaces. Unfortunately, the Secret Service cannot be trusted not to collaborate with Trump against our democracy. Missing texts, etc.

Clear a wing in an existing jail, let the Secret Service detail figure out how to guard the location just as they do whenever Trump goes out for a cheeseburger, and put him in an 8x8 cell with a bunk and stainless steel toilet.

A couple of days or even hours will adjust his attitude like his father's scorn used to.

As much as there may be negative consequences for any actions against Trump, the same is true for inaction, if not more so. The courts need to handle things just as they would for anyone else pulling the stunts he is. By the book, but without special favor. Every time he gets away with something, he and his supporters are further emboldened. These trials and this election may just be our last real chance to put a stop to him. Let's give it all we've got.

He has been for some time, and it needs to stop. There has been no upside to treating him specially. Quite the contrary. It's just caused delays and further enabled him.

It's up to the judge. She's going to rule on the prosecution's motion for a protective order request. Trump's attys submitted their response today. Don't know when she will rule. Stay tuned.

He's already been treated so much more leniently than any other defendant at his level of criminal charges would ever be treated, it is unAmerican, undemocratic, and disgusting! He IS above the law...so far. That should stop! He should be shut down now. You cannot tiptoe across a land mine and hope it doesn't explode! It's going to explode sometime.

I'm of a mind that says, "bring it on." For those itching for rebellion I can't think of a better time than now for them to come out and make their play. I certainly don't want any violence, but if the pent up potential for violence is there, I'd much prefer it to come with Trump in jail, a democratic president firmly at the helm, and more than a year to sort through the debris and highlight exactly who it is that Trump (and his enablers) is inspiring to armed insurrection. Plenty of time for the true events to seep into the collective mindset of Trump actively defying a federal judge and getting the normal consequences of that and his followers turning terrorist because of it. "My friends, the Republican Party -2023!"

I agree. I believe the majority of rational Americans have come to this conclusion. We have accepted the risks of the only way to put an end to this. Put up or shut up. And bring it on if you must.

I'm tired of being a hostage to Trump, the GOP, and the worst impulses of their constituants. Especially if the outcome is inevitable. I can't go back to The Before Times. One way or another, there has to be a reckoning with the Trump years and Republicans' role. Like you, I don't want violence. If there is to be violence, it will because they have chosen so. We need to proceed with an awareness of the violence MAGA forces may unleash, but with a steadfast determination in spite of it, and with the rule of law as our guide.

I agree with you. I'm tired of being a hostage to the GOP et al. The nation is exhausted by the constant bombardment of hate and ugliness and tyranny and violence and promise of destruction! It needs to be halted! I'd rather see it done before the GOP retakes/steals more elections (which is why they are so quick to point the finger -- they are stunned when they try, and fail, to steal an election).

I doubt many of the Cosplay Confederacy really want to take on the US Military. They may fantasize shooting up libtard woke snowflakes, but the reality is the Dems hold the power to bring an end to their fantasies.

I too have hit my Trump limit and I still have enough in the anger pool to direct an anger tsunami at the GOP for their feckless enabling of this whole Trump mess.
