Do you know of his bankruptcies (3 casinos and the Plaza Hotel), failed Trump Steaks, Trump Vodka, Trump Shuttle, Trump Mortgage, and Trump University, which folded after lawsuits. There was also the Trump Foundation, from which he had to pay out $2 million dollars to 8 ACTUAL charities, admit heтАЩd used funds from it to promote his presidential bid and pay off business debts, and disburse the remaining funds to more actual charities.
This is the kind of businessman you think is ideal to run America.

Two comments, Linda: 1. MAGA is not the audience for the ad. The swing voters are. 2. If it were me getting that MAGA response - lawyers bankrupted America - I would say, "So you say. Prove it." They can't, and no one EVER asks them to. It usually shuts them up.

Linda, speaking of insecurities, I just came across this. (I'm cleaning out computer files.) The article is titled "Analytic thinking reduces belief in conspiracy theories". That is why I never believed in conspiracy theories which I noted below. I'm VERY analytical!

I think they get some kind of confidence in the belief and hanging out fellow believers.
Interesting paper. I agree with you about the gaining of confidence in the belief, and the affirmation provided by hanging out with the like-minded. But I see a greater trust in authority, itтАЩs just that the authority is, for them, vested in one man (Q and/or Trump, in our current quagmire); they also seem MORE inclined to be politically engaged, like the QAnon people.

You know, I've come to understand that people who believe in conspiracies are insecure people. The belief gives them something, and their joining with others also gives them something. That's why you can't argue them out of the conspiracy. They have to believe it and be with others that also believe. This is what's underneath the Trump cult, I think. It fills an emotional need.
Long ago, coming out of a childhood trauma, I had that same insecurity (but I never believed in conspiracies). I no longer do, but I recognize the lack of confidence it brings.

The authority they mistrust is the establishment who's screwing them. The authority they trust is a con man.
