The roots of this go all the way back to the 1960s. Goldwater opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act even though he wasn't a racist at all. That started a pattern of party switches, which Nixon encouraged. ("Southern Strategy".) Nixon had previously had a good civil rights record.
I don't know. As the Republican Party has shifted more and more authoritarian over the years, I think there is starting to be some truth in it. Mitch McConnell is a lot of things, most of them bad. He also bears a lot of responsibility for getting us to the point we are at. But all that said, I don't think he's an actual fascist. As the Republican party becomes authoritarian and Putin fan bois, McConnell is become more and more of a RINO.
I remember the 1984 campaign when McConnell was first elected to the Senate. The Democrat he defeated was pro-life, pro-gun, and anti-immigrant. I might have voted for McConnell, who had had a moderate record as the county executive of Jefferson County, which includes Louisville. (This was before the city and county governments were merged.)
Being opposed to abortion rights is probably the closest thing the current Republican Party has to a unifying policy objective. Of everyone whoтАЩs not actually on the Supreme Court, McConnell is most responsible for the demise of Roe. HeтАЩs not a member of the Trump personality cult but also refused to end TrumpтАЩs political career when he had a chance to do so during the second impeachment trial. I see McConnell as somewhat like John Roberts, whose very real right-wing commitments are occasionally tempered by simultaneous jealousy of institutional prerogatives.
Seriously, just went to look at Micheal Knowles social media site and the comments section is just so insane. They contradict themselves within the same comment. ItтАЩs bat shit crazy stuff. Like people need a hobby that is off the internet.
As an AZ resident I thank the lord we don't have Kari Lake as our governor. She's spouting nonsense that she can't run for a senate seat because she's already governor. But don't you fret, the republican wingnuts in the state legislature are up to their usual chicanery. Incidentally, a right wing friend called me a couple of months ago whom I speak to as little as possible. I decided to lob a grenade right away in the conversation when asked how I was doing. Told this person great, because KKKari Lake isn't our governor. The response was "well I didn't like her when she was on tv, but the democrat is going to open up the border". They can't handle the truth, they don't want the truth.
They nominated such whack jobs not only did they lose the Senate and the Governor's office they also turned over the state house which hasn't happened in decades
They must love kicking themselves in the balls because i heard that Mastriano is talking about running for senate in 24'
These are people who will apparently throw themselves in front of a balls-kicking machine... because they get off on it, maybe?
Kind of like an Elden Ring player (part of the Souls franchise of games from Fromsoft--a series of games notable for their difficulty and deliberate cruelty to the players).
The problem is that Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson are more representative of Republican voters today than Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney.
Yes but I still feel good about them speaking out, and makes it seem as if the entire Senate GOP agrees.
As JVL would say, the GOP has a voter problem - one they carefully cultivated over the years. You reap what you sow.

The notion that Mitch McConnell is a RINO is one of the wildest tropes of recent Trumpist discourse.

The good news is that the open contempt will cost the party some small measure of support, which well could be enough to swing elections.
The bad news is that the hardcore Fox viewers live in a self-imposed closed media ecosystem and will not find out about the open contempt.

A classic Catch 22.
Had the Republicans nominated normal candidates there would now be Republican governors in Arizona and New York.

Same with PA.

Lel.
Elden Ring's ball busting is no joke.
Try Wo Long if you get the chance. It's free if you have Xbox Game pass.
It is actually a REALLY good joke, if you (as a player) have the capacity of laughing at yourself after dying to Margot 30 times.
Have you ever watched any of the CarbotAnimation Elden Ring Youtube content? They pretty much nail it.
Will check out Wo Long, TY.
I love the CarbotAnimation series. He perfectly nails the Elden Ring experience in minute and half bites.
ThatтАЩs the only thing that keeps me halfway sane; enjoying their self annihilation.
Right; but only to the extent that people see it - which Fox viewers wonтАЩt.
