The walkback really bothered me. By all accounts, Biden gave a brilliant speech, but all I've heard about is the regime change walkback. I've noodled how you can circle the square as a comms team member so that you're not seen as advocating for military removal of Putin while still making a point that the war criminal shouldn't remain in…

I've noodled how you can circle the square as a comms team member so that you're not seen as advocating for military removal of Putin while still making a point that the war criminal shouldn't remain in power- I came up with a clarifying line of- "We're hopeful the Russian people will, in a peaceful & democratic way, recognize that Putin is not a leader reflective of their great history and make it known their opposition to his war" That would have ticked all the boxes...
It was an excellent speech and should have been allowed to stand on its own. Putin knows that this country won't dispatch CIA assassins or hire mercenaries like he has reportedly done but there's nothing wrong with giving him a few moments of concern about his own bodyguards. What should be done quietly is sending long-range SAMs and other weapons along with upgraded intelligence tools to the Ukrainians so they can get done the job of stopping the Russians. Then set criteria for an end to the sanctions beginning with a return to the status quo ante 2014 and the establishment of Crimea as an independent state.
Thanks TC, but they don't listen to anyone else, why would they listen to me just because what I say occasionally makes sense. They could hire you or any number of the rest of us who comment here and get better advice than they are now.
I wouldn't have replaced what Biden said, can't fix what comes from the heart- it's the staffer statement after to clarify it that I would have changed.
I think he meant to say what he said. And he was right. He had to qualify it so it seemed like he didn't mean it because it would have been bad. But the Russians heard what he had to say, which is all that counts. He's smarter than you think.
I think he's smarter than Putin, just not as maniacal. He is smarter than many of the people in Congress and he is way smarter, better educated, more experienced and more emotionally balanced than Trump.
It's a tough situation that I'm glad we have serious people dealing with it.

That's brilliant, but he would have been criticized for being too wordy.

Send in your resume ASAP, for the love of God

Agreed.
This is my take as well. Or, I should say my desperate hope that he is that smart.
