I think whoever's leading Axios, Politico, the New York Times, etc. etc. right now is of the type that university presidents tend to be picked from.

That is, Schmoozers.

Schmoozers are, by nature, good at connecting, making friends, fundraising, socializing with the wealthy and powerful. They are good at smoothing over problems, finding the right man/woman to smooth over problems, connecting this guy with that guy, etc. etc.

That is an asset when you are--*harrumph*--Running An Institution. Also, Preserving Your Reputation.

When it comes time to do the job that you're supposed to be doing on paper, on the other hand, such "skills" can get in the way.

University presidents are supposed to be educating and seeking the truth--Instead, they appear to be striving to appease those who shit on education and want to build an Empire of Lies.

Media editors are supposed to be reporting what's happening and uncovering the truth--Instead, they appear to be striving to preserve their access to power, and bolstering their *harrumph* Reputation with those who hate their very existence.

Schmoozing is a great skill to have in leaders in peacetime, during times of prosperity, during belle epoques (like the one we were just in for all of three years).

Unfortunately, it's now 2025, and our belle epoque is burning down.

We need new leaders. These Schmoozers need to leave. Their time, and their usefulness, have passed.

I knew there was a reason I've never set foot in a Steak n Shake. But honestly, their new fries are probably delicious.

I guess Hindus were never part of steak and shake's target audience.

Did Doge find ‘Survivor benefits’ in Social Security and go ape shit? Maybe the bros totally misunderstood the database schema and jumped to wild conclusions.

The fundamentals of the economy are strong? Tell that to my retirement accounts! To quote a Boston Globe columnist that I subscribe to “The world would be a better place if we all just stopped being bastards to one another.”

This whole regime is one giant cluster-fork. As for JD, is there a bigger horse's arse on the planet?

I'm disappointed. These are the kinds of stories that captured media write about. Fox has been all over beef tallow vs seed oils, because it's complete nonsense. We fill the people's heads with nonsense on purpose. Keeping the people ignorant (and afraid) is how oligarchs stay in power. Fascism is the merger of corporate and state power.

The longer you refuse to see the ruling class as the problem, the longer you will continue to believe that arguing with their fake talking points will get you somewhere.

Argh there's few things more aggravating than getting an email response that has nothing to do with your query. It means the recipient can't be assed to apply a simple filter, much less an AI or actual human being. It either means they don't care, to the full extent of not caring, or they care to a negative degree and delight in tweaking you.

Haven’t scrolled all Comments yet but how can we discuss cooking fats & RFKJ without going directly to bear grease? A quick google shows it can be ordered online, not sure if the Canadian vendors are being tariffed yet - gotta protect our American bear rendering industry & all its awesome JOBS for discarded air traffic controllers and vaccine researchers

Are we talking about trans-fats now, because we know how this administration feels about everything trans. Maybe we can mix in a measles vaccine in with the fries and kill two birds with one stone. Kennedy sure has his priorities in line doesn't he?

Just a reminder that not everyone who drinks raw milk or uses beef tallow is nuts or your enemy. I usually fry in lard because of it's high smoke point. I love olive oil but it's not good for frying.

I haven't looked this up so totally spitballing, but don't solid fats go rancid faster than oils? I used to keep Crisco around but it always ended up going rancid before I used it up.

Just feel like that would make it inconvenient for fast food restaurants.

Sure, I hear you. If you prefer beef tallow for taste or some kind of gourmet cooking reason, all the more power to you, but just don't claim we are poisoning ourselves with 'seed oils' (which is pseudo science bullshit).

I remember about 20 years ago when Silvio Burlesconi the bunga bunga party, media mogul guy became Prime Minister in Italy and I thought that was so embarrassing for them that they weren't a serious Country like the United States...we would never do something so ridiculous

Those maga-wingnuts are obsessed with trans-issues..

Could it be that this is the reason why they are shredding the relationship with European allies ?

They misunderstand the meaning of

"trans" in "transatlantic relationships"..
