Anyone unwilling to hear the truth about Trump is unfit to vote in the presidential election. Willful ignorance is not a freedom protected by the Bill of Rights. A tiny minority of Republicans including Christie have tried to warn their party, but it’s too little, too late--a majority of Trump supplicants have already suffered irreversible brain damage.
I believe you're right. I simply felt the need to point out that the R's have at least one honorable person running but actually there hasn't been a legitimate R party for a good while now. As you point out, there are way too many crazies and the party should just be called the trumplican party.
I have to ask: Why don't these Republicans that are stepping down do something to make a statement on the way out. Have all those not running again put their names in a hat, draw out 5 names, and have them resign immediately. This would prevent the fingernail-pulling torture of watching the House Republicans stabbing each other in the back for the next year. Maybe as the gavel was passed to Rep Hakim Jeffries some of the crazies would crawl back into their holes.
Oh, and a little humor from the NH Primary Ballots... always some fun there. The sample ballots are out for both parties, and since just about anyone can jump on the bandwagon ($1,000 and you're in), one of the contenders on the Democratic Primary Ballot this year is "Vermin Supreme" from Rockport, Massachusetts."

Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, and the others all raised their hands." This is not fully accurate. Asa Hutchinson also did not raise his hand. And Hutchinson is the only one on that stage who both did not raise his hand in that instance and also acknowledged that climate change is real. For these reasons, Hutchinson was the only honorable person on that stage that day and as far as I can tell, this is still the case.
Christie suffered only one lapse; he failed to say that the only acceptable alternative to the failed insurrectionist is Biden. Until Republicans are willing to take the undoubted risk and make that break, there will be no progress.
"It's not worth it to stay and fight" has been the self-serving slogan of departing pols in both parties going back at least to Evan Bayh when he left the Senate. If all of these people had stayed and fought we'd be miles ahead of where we are and people like Greene, Boebert, Gosar, and Gaetz would have been either educated or booted. I find little room for sorrow for people who take a job knowing that there will be challenges and leave without making a serious attempt at change. If the 165 Republicans who voted for the FRA, as a group, said they would support a Speaker only if she/he agreed to work with Jeffries and the Democrats the Crazy Caucus would lose all its power and there could be an approach to normalcy. There is no oath of party fealty required of candidates and those who do their jobs well stand to be re-elected because their constituents value their performance.
It's definitely outrageous that Trump is arguing for the right to assassinate his opponents--but I think it's also worth remembering that the 1924 Democratic National Convention was unable to pass a resolution condemning lynching. Violence, and the tolerance for violence, has been part of the American political universe longer than we might like to think.
I just want to see Trump on trial by March. No more delays. About the case in Georgia and the documents case in Florida, when will that happen? Will Trump ever pay for his sins,?
At the risk of political incorrectness, in the insanity of our world perhaps this idea can have a place. What if Christie, to get attention, shed his overweight? It's doable now. And he may be the best anti Trump voice in his connection to the other side and his eloquence.
Just when I think about how broad-based your knowlege and intelligence are, I get floored by your use of the actual Hebrew lettering for mark of Cain: "his embrace would have been seen as the אות of Cain." Dang! That's not even common knowledge among Jewish people.
Unfortunately, my lasting memory of Christie will always be him sitting in the beach folding chair on the deserted beach in New Jersey a few years back. I think of Bridgegate right after that. Punish the people of an entire town out of spite for the mayor.. great.
While I do think what he's been doing with Trump agrees with my assessment of Trump and isn't really that hard to see if you have a brain and I do agree that he is a voice in the wilderness currently about Trump. What I do suspect is that He's pretty sure Trump will fall short in one of so many ways and that when that has happened, he'll be there saying "I told you so, so now, vote for me your only logical choice. "
I wish I thought better of him and did for a short while but the suspicions are things I simply can't shake off. The GOP is a very sad place right now in its craziness and a new party is going to need to form. It happened to the Whigs. It can happen here out of necessity. The Bulwark would not exist if the potential was not there to recognize.
