On this week’s episode, Sonny Bunch (The Bulwark), Alyssa Rosenberg (The Washington Post), and Peter Suderman (Reason) discuss the blight of the Inappropriate Laughers. (Here’s a gift link to the New York Times piece we reference.) Then they review I’m Still Here, the, uh, other foreign language film nominated for best picture at this year’s Oscars. Make sure to swing by Bulwark+ for our bonus episode Friday on the next generation of movie stars. And if you enjoyed this episode, please share it with a friend!

Here's the elevator pitch: It's "Left, Right, and Center" meets "Siskel and Ebert." Three friends from different ideological perspectives discuss the movies and controversies (or nontroversies!) about them.

I've left the theater with a refund due to the loud noise of patrons eating popcorn.
Just had to comment that I was ‘that guy’ in a small theater with maybe 20 other people (at most) watching Challengers. I loved Challengers and thought it was loads of fun, devilishly clever (in both camerawork and dialog) and even laugh-out-loud comedically funny. I had a hard time containing my delight and laughter.
I think everyone else in the theater was watching it as straight serious drama or something because I was not only the only person laughing, I could feel the judgement coming from around me.
One of the other patrons even engaged my wife afterwards in the bathroom to ask what was going on, thinking that I was perhaps mocking the film the whole time. My wife, who also found it very humorous at points, explained what we had found so delightful and funny about Challengers, and the other patron slowly realized that the movie was indeed intentionally clever/funny. Though apparently she hadn’t found anything funny about it while watching, lol.
It has been hard for me to square the fact that I (and my wife) had such a different experience of the movie than everyone else!
The chaos of just not doing the paperwork reminds me that Trump just took over the National Archives and his henchman, Elon, is busily working on infiltrating all our most critical government agencies.
Great discussion of I’m Still Here. Thank you!
