Vibe Check (with Tim Miller)

(Paraphrasing) "The guy who doesn't really go to church, who has had plenty of sex out of wedlock, who wants some kind of abortions out there, and doesn't want to be talked to by preachy religious people but also dislikes large swaths of wokism...."

This is it. This is the best description of the non-white nationalist Trumpers I've ever heard. That plus the entertainment aspect of "owning the libs" that Sarah describes right after. This was such a great part of this conversation and so accurate. and important for liberals to understand.

Another indication of the vibe shift is Biden's improvement in the polls. Tim and Sarah mentioned his standing as being in the 30's but that must have been recorded before the release of the latest polls. Gallup has him at 44 percent (seems a little high) and Nate Silver has him at just under 42 percent.

Even if the polls are undercounting MAGA voters because they are refusing to participate in polling, as Sarah noted, the trajectory is still upward. And that is a Good Thing.

I hope, like the silent Trump voters in past polls, there will be more people voting against the extremes of the abortion bans, than current pollsters predict. I remember listening to one of Sarah’s episodes a few months ago. As soon as a segregated group of women voters (who probably finally felt safe) they agreed that concerns about extreme abortion restriction issues were front and center. I hope this is a huge blue undertow which thwarts the red wave. The extreme laws passing across the country are literally hurting and now killing women. If Dems can keep focusing on the loss of rights, it might help.

Can we PLEASE stop calling them election deniers? They are Election Liars and should be referred to that way. Anything else implicitly confers legitimacy to their claims.

I think I had too much coffee this morning, lol. This sounds more harsh than intended. Great pod today with Tim!

It sure would be great if there were transcripts of these chats. One could get thru them a lot more efficiently by reading instead of listening.

I wonder if you guys think that the average GOP voter who thought the 2020 election was stolen, expected the evidence would surface sooner or later. Now we are approaching two years since that election, perhaps it has started to sink in that this isn't going to happen and, therefore, the whole stolen election deal was complete BS.

I suspect that many of the GOP voters are Christian Nationalists but don't like being called that. It's a bit like their attitude to racism. They have racist opinions but don't feel they deserve to be called "racist". They need a Jeff Foxworthy-style lecture. "You might be a Christian Nationalist if you ..."

The GOP's attitudes on abortion also demonstrate their radicalism in general. It shows their willingness to enact legislation that doesn't reflect where the voters are. They are giving out a definite Gilead vibe which is scary. Time for binge-watching "A Handmaid's Tale"?

While this Dem certainly likes the current vibes, there are some cross winds possibly approaching. Energy prices in Europe are starting to rise due to Russia and this may start happening here in Oct.

Plus Powell singled another big interest rate hike before the election. Could change or muffle some the good August vibes...

Oh contraire! I prefer Sarah’s analysis and less of the actual people talking. The more Sarah we can get the better. You are the star of the show!

Sarah and her guest’s analysis helps me get through the show. The raw footage, while very informative and valuable, is just too painful to listen to without commentaries.

The first thing Satan's minions do is shift the blame. The devil's claws run deep through the political and religious right.
